File size is a cheap and honest check, as long as the number is read as an estimate. Exported at roughly 8 to 12 Mbps, a 30 second vertical video at 1080p usually lands near 8 to 25 MB, and heavy motion shifts that window. Far outside it is the warning: 2 MB means compression crushed the shadows, 300 MB means nothing was optimised and the platform re compresses it.

Short form is not long form chopped up. The difference is not length, it is that the viewer never chose the video. They are scrolling, yours appears, and the decision to stay happens inside two or three seconds. So the opening is not spent on a logo or a greeting, which can wait.

The format is 9:16 at 1080 by 1920 pixels, and the text safe area is far smaller than the canvas. The bottom strip is covered by the caption and buttons, the right edge by like, comment, and share. Important text belongs in the middle third, and the subject is kept there from the shoot, not cropped in later. Runtime follows content: one idea finished in 18 seconds beats it stretched to 45.

What takes real time on the first video is not cutting, it is settling the caption font, where text sits in the safe area, the base colour, the cutting rhythm, and the final audio level.
